Hyundai Car Finance Claim — PCP & HP Compensation 2026
Scheme status (updated 5 August 2026): parts of the FCA motor finance redress scheme are temporarily suspended while the Upper Tribunal considers legal challenges. Lenders do not currently have to calculate or pay compensation under the scheme, the original decision and payment dates no longer apply, and no payment under the scheme is guaranteed. If the scheme proceeds, first payments are expected in 2027 at the earliest. Any dates mentioned below were set before the suspension.
If you financed a Hyundai vehicle between April 2007 and November 2024, you may be entitled to compensation under the FCA confirmed motor finance redress scheme (PS26/3, 30 March 2026). Hyundai Finance, provided through Hyundai Capital UK, is the captive finance arm for Hyundai in the UK. This guide explains eligibility, the specific features of Hyundai finance arrangements, and how to submit a complaint.
Who Provides Hyundai Car Finance?
Hyundai Capital UK Ltd is the FCA-authorised finance provider for Hyundai vehicles in the UK, operating through the franchised Hyundai dealer network. Hyundai Capital also provides finance for the Kia brand as both Hyundai and Kia are part of the Hyundai Motor Group. If your finance paperwork names Hyundai Capital or Hyundai Finance, these refer to the same entity.
Hyundai Capital UK has not publicly announced a specific provision for motor finance redress at the time of writing. However, as an FCA-regulated lender operating in the UK market during the eligible period, it is within the scope of PS26/3 and must comply with the scheme requirements.
Is Hyundai Capital UK Covered by the FCA Scheme?
Yes. All FCA-regulated PCP and HP agreements arranged through Hyundai Capital UK between 6 April 2007 and 1 November 2024 are within PS26/3. The complaint deadline is 31 August 2027.
Three Grounds for a Hyundai Car Finance Claim
1. Discretionary Commission Arrangements
Hyundai dealerships arranging finance through Hyundai Capital UK prior to 28 January 2021 may have used DCAs to increase their commission by setting your interest rate higher within a lender-defined range. Where this was not disclosed to you, you are eligible for compensation under the scheme.
2. Unfairly High Fixed Commission
Post-January 2021 agreements may qualify where the fixed commission paid by Hyundai Capital UK to the dealer met the FCA threshold of at least 39% of the total cost of credit and 10% of the loan amount.
3. Dealer Incentive Structures
During the 2007 to 2021 period, Hyundai was expanding aggressively in the UK market with significant incentive programmes for dealers. This created pressure to maximise finance income, making commission-driven arrangements more prevalent. Where commission arrangements were not clearly disclosed, this supports a claim.
Hyundai Electric Vehicle Agreements
Hyundai expanded into electric vehicles during the later eligible period, particularly with the Ioniq range. PCP and HP agreements for Hyundai Ioniq 5, Ioniq 6, and Kona Electric vehicles are within the scheme in the same way as conventional fuel agreements, provided they were arranged in the eligible period through the franchised network.
How Much Could You Receive?
The FCA confirmed average payout is £829 per eligible agreement. Your specific amount is calculated using the hybrid remedy — averaging your estimated interest overpayment and the commission paid by Hyundai Capital to the dealer, plus compensatory interest at Bank of England base rate plus 1% per year. The APR adjustment is 17% for post-April 2014 agreements and 21% for pre-April 2014.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Hyundai finance was arranged by a Kia dealer. Is it still a Hyundai Capital agreement?
Hyundai and Kia both use Hyundai Capital UK as their finance provider. Agreements arranged through either brand dealership may name Hyundai Capital on the paperwork. Check your original agreement to confirm the lender name.
I financed a used Hyundai, not a new car. Am I still eligible?
Yes. The scheme covers both new and used vehicle finance agreements arranged through dealerships in the eligible period, provided the finance was a regulated PCP or HP agreement.
My Hyundai claim was previously rejected. Can I resubmit under the FCA scheme?
Yes. Many early rejections were based only on DCA criteria before the scheme expanded to cover high fixed commission and other grounds. Resubmitting under all applicable grounds is valid.
Think You May Have a Motor Finance Claim?
The FCA estimates average compensation of around £830 per eligible agreement, but eligibility and payment amounts vary. Some customers may receive nothing. Complaints about agreements started from 1 April 2014 should be submitted by 30 June 2026 to be considered under the earlier timetable. Different dates apply to older agreements. The scheme is currently subject to legal challenge, so dates and payment timings may change.
