Mazda Car Finance Claim — PCP & HP Compensation 2026

Scheme status (updated 5 August 2026): parts of the FCA motor finance redress scheme are temporarily suspended while the Upper Tribunal considers legal challenges. Lenders do not currently have to calculate or pay compensation under the scheme, the original decision and payment dates no longer apply, and no payment under the scheme is guaranteed. If the scheme proceeds, first payments are expected in 2027 at the earliest. Any dates mentioned below were set before the suspension.

If you financed a Mazda vehicle on a PCP or HP agreement between April 2007 and November 2024, you may be entitled to compensation under the FCA confirmed motor finance redress scheme (PS26/3, 30 March 2026). Mazda Financial Services, the captive finance arm of Mazda Motor UK, provided agreements through the Mazda franchised dealer network and falls within the scope of PS26/3.

Who Provides Mazda Car Finance?

Mazda Financial Services is operated through a partnership with a regulated third-party finance provider — primarily using Alphera Financial Services (BMW Group Financial Services) or direct bank partner arrangements depending on the period. In some periods, Mazda UK finance was provided through Black Horse (Lloyds). The specific lender named on your Mazda finance agreement determines which entity you should approach for your complaint.

This distinction is important: if your paperwork names Black Horse as the lender, your claim sits with Black Horse rather than Mazda directly. If it names Alphera Financial Services, your claim is with BMW Group Financial Services. If it names a different entity, submit your complaint to that named lender.

Is Mazda Financial Services Covered by the FCA Scheme?

Yes. All FCA-regulated PCP and HP agreements arranged through Mazda Financial Services or its partner lenders between 6 April 2007 and 1 November 2024 are within PS26/3. The complaint deadline is 31 August 2027.

Three Grounds for a Mazda Car Finance Claim

1. Discretionary Commission Arrangements

Mazda dealers arranging finance on behalf of the named lender prior to 28 January 2021 could set your interest rate within a range, earning more commission the higher the rate. Where this was undisclosed, you are eligible for compensation.

What Is a DCA?

2. Unfairly High Fixed Commission

Post-January 2021 agreements may still qualify where the fixed commission met the FCA threshold of 39% of total cost of credit and 10% of the loan amount.

3. Third-Party Lender Commission Arrangements

Where Mazda UK arranged finance through a third-party lender, both the lender and the dealer may have received commission. If neither was disclosed to you, this creates grounds for a complaint against the named lender in your agreement.

How Much Could You Receive?

The FCA confirmed national average payout is £829. Your amount is calculated using the hybrid remedy — averaging your estimated interest overpayment (17% APR reduction for post-April 2014 agreements, 21% for pre-April 2014) and the commission paid, plus compensatory interest at Bank of England base rate plus 1% per year.

How to Complain for a Mazda Finance Agreement

Check your original finance agreement to identify the named lender. Submit your complaint directly to that lender — either Black Horse, Alphera Financial Services, or whichever entity is named. Reference PS26/3 and include your full name, date of birth, address at the time of the agreement, vehicle registration and a statement about undisclosed commission arrangements.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Mazda finance paperwork does not clearly name a lender. How do I find out who to complain to?

Request a copy of your original credit agreement from Mazda UK or the dealership. The lender must be named on the regulated credit agreement. You can also submit a Subject Access Request to Mazda UK who will be able to identify the lender entity.

I financed a Mazda MX-5 on a personal contract purchase years ago. Is it still claimable?

Yes. PCP agreements from April 2007 onwards are within scope regardless of the vehicle model. The MX-5 and all other Mazda passenger cars are covered.

Can I claim if I traded the Mazda in part way through the agreement?

Yes. Trading in the vehicle or settling the agreement early does not affect eligibility. The claim relates to the commission structure at the start of the agreement.

Claiming After Early Settlement

Think You May Have a Motor Finance Claim?

The FCA estimates average compensation of around £830 per eligible agreement, but eligibility and payment amounts vary. Some customers may receive nothing. Complaints about agreements started from 1 April 2014 should be submitted by 30 June 2026 to be considered under the earlier timetable. Different dates apply to older agreements. The scheme is currently subject to legal challenge, so dates and payment timings may change.
