Mitsubishi Car Finance Claim — PCP & HP Compensation 2026

Scheme status (updated 5 August 2026): parts of the FCA motor finance redress scheme are temporarily suspended while the Upper Tribunal considers legal challenges. Lenders do not currently have to calculate or pay compensation under the scheme, the original decision and payment dates no longer apply, and no payment under the scheme is guaranteed. If the scheme proceeds, first payments are expected in 2027 at the earliest. Any dates mentioned below were set before the suspension.

If you financed a Mitsubishi vehicle between April 2007 and November 2024, you may be entitled to compensation under the FCA confirmed motor finance redress scheme (PS26/3, 30 March 2026). Mitsubishi finance in the UK was provided by RCI Financial Services Ltd — the same entity behind Renault Finance, Nissan Financial Services and Dacia Finance — under the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance. Average payout: £829.

Who Provided Mitsubishi Car Finance in the UK?

Mitsubishi car finance in the UK was provided by RCI Financial Services Ltd, operating as Mitsubishi HC Capital UK PLC (formerly known as MMC Finance) in partnership with the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance. The Mitsubishi finance operation in the UK was also separately operated at times through Mitsubishi HC Capital UK PLC, a joint venture between Mitsubishi HC Capital Inc. and Mitsubishi Motors.

If your agreement names RCI Financial Services, MMC Finance, or Mitsubishi HC Capital, your complaint may go to either entity depending on the agreement date. Check your original paperwork or credit report for the exact lender name and use the FCA’s lender list to confirm the correct complaint address.

Is Mitsubishi Finance Covered by PS26/3?

Yes. Regulated PCP and HP agreements arranged through franchised Mitsubishi dealerships between 6 April 2007 and 1 November 2024 are within scope of PS26/3, provided the lender was FCA-regulated. Both RCI Financial Services Ltd and Mitsubishi HC Capital UK PLC are FCA-regulated. The complaint deadline is 31 August 2027.

Note: Mitsubishi Motors ceased selling new passenger cars in the UK in 2021, though its commercial vehicle range continued. Agreements on passenger models up to that point — particularly the Outlander PHEV, which was one of the UK’s best-selling plug-in hybrids — are within scope.

Three Grounds for a Mitsubishi Finance Claim

1. Discretionary Commission Arrangements (DCAs)

Prior to 28 January 2021, Mitsubishi dealers arranging finance could vary the interest rate within a lender-defined range. Where this was not disclosed, you are entitled to compensation.

2. Unfairly High Fixed Commission

Post-January 2021 agreements may qualify where the fixed commission met the FCA threshold of 39% of the total cost of credit and 10% of the loan amount.

3. Alliance Finance Shared Infrastructure

RCI Financial Services operated across Renault, Nissan, Dacia and Mitsubishi under shared commission structures within the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance. Similar DCA practices applied across all alliance brands during the eligible period.

Mitsubishi Models Covered

Mitsubishi models commonly financed through the franchised UK dealer network between April 2007 and November 2024 include: Outlander, Outlander PHEV, Eclipse Cross, ASX, L200, Shogun, Colt, Lancer and Galant. The Outlander PHEV was one of the most commonly financed Mitsubishi models and is fully within scope.

Scheme Timetable (Original Dates, Now Suspended)

Post-April 2014 agreements: Complain before 30 June 2026 → lender must respond by 30 September 2026 → payment by November 2026

Pre-April 2014 agreements: Complain before 31 August 2026 → decision by 30 November 2026 → payment by January 2027

Final complaint deadline: 31 August 2027

Under the original timetable, complaining before 30 June 2026 placed you in the earliest payment cohort. Those dates are suspended; complaining is still free and puts your complaint on record, but no payment under the scheme is guaranteed while the suspension stands.

How to Complain to Mitsubishi Finance / RCI Financial Services / Mitsubishi HC Capital

Submit your complaint using the contact details on your original agreement or via the FCA’s official lender list at fca.org.uk/consumers/car-finance-complaints/list-lenders. Include:

  • The vehicle make, model and registration number if known
  • The approximate start date of the finance agreement
  • A statement that you are complaining about undisclosed commission arrangements under the FCA motor finance redress scheme (PS26/3)

Frequently Asked Questions

Mitsubishi stopped selling cars in the UK. Can I still claim?

Yes. The claim is against the lender, not Mitsubishi Motors. The lender continues to exist and is obligated under PS26/3 regardless of whether Mitsubishi Motors is still selling cars in the UK.

My agreement says MMC Finance. Who do I complain to?

MMC Finance was an earlier trading name. Check the FCA’s lender list at fca.org.uk/consumers/car-finance-complaints/list-lenders for the current complaint address for your specific agreement.

I financed a Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Is that covered?

Yes. The Outlander PHEV is a plug-in hybrid vehicle financed on PCP or HP and is fully within scope of PS26/3 alongside conventional fuel Mitsubishi models.

I have a Mitsubishi and a Nissan both financed through RCI. Can I claim for both?

Yes. Each agreement is a separate claim. See: Multiple Car Finance Agreements.

Think You May Have a Motor Finance Claim?

The FCA estimates average compensation of around £830 per eligible agreement, but eligibility and payment amounts vary. Some customers may receive nothing. Complaints about agreements started from 1 April 2014 should be submitted by 30 June 2026 to be considered under the earlier timetable. Different dates apply to older agreements. The scheme is currently subject to legal challenge, so dates and payment timings may change.
