Advantage Finance Car Finance Claim — PCP & HP Compensation 2026

Scheme status (updated 5 August 2026): parts of the FCA motor finance redress scheme are temporarily suspended while the Upper Tribunal considers legal challenges. Lenders do not currently have to calculate or pay compensation under the scheme, the original decision and payment dates no longer apply, and no payment under the scheme is guaranteed. If the scheme proceeds, first payments are expected in 2027 at the earliest. Any dates mentioned below were set before the suspension.

If you took out a car finance agreement through Advantage Finance between April 2007 and November 2024, you may be owed compensation. Advantage Finance is a specialist lender operating primarily in the non-prime and sub-prime motor finance market, serving customers who may not qualify for mainstream lending. This market segment saw widespread use of discretionary commission arrangements (DCAs), making Advantage Finance agreements a significant focus area under the FCA’s confirmed redress scheme.

Who Is Advantage Finance?

Advantage Finance Ltd is a UK-based specialist motor finance lender headquartered in Lincoln. It provides PCP and HP agreements primarily through independent car dealers to customers with non-standard credit profiles. Operating outside the mainstream lender tier, Advantage Finance relied heavily on broker and dealer networks where commission arrangements were common. The company is FCA-authorised and falls within the scope of the motor finance redress scheme confirmed by the FCA on 30 March 2026 (PS26/3).

Because Advantage Finance served the non-prime market, the interest rates applied to its agreements were typically higher than mainstream lenders — meaning the financial impact of undisclosed commission arrangements on monthly repayments was often greater in absolute terms than for prime market customers.

Is Advantage Finance Covered by the FCA Scheme?

Yes. All FCA-regulated PCP and HP agreements arranged between 6 April 2007 and 1 November 2024 fall within the confirmed redress scheme (PS26/3). Advantage Finance is FCA-authorised and its agreements in this period are eligible for assessment. The complaint deadline under the scheme is 31 August 2027.

Why Advantage Finance Agreements Are High Priority

Non-prime lenders like Advantage Finance used DCAs extensively throughout the eligible period. A DCA allowed dealers to set the interest rate within a lender-defined range — the higher the rate they set, the more commission they earned. For customers with impaired credit who had fewer alternative finance options, this created significant scope for exploitation. Dealers knew that non-prime customers were less likely to shop around, making undisclosed commission arrangements in this segment particularly common.

The FCA’s DCA ban on 28 January 2021 applied equally to specialist lenders. Any Advantage Finance agreement prior to that date involving a DCA where the commission was not clearly disclosed is eligible for the full hybrid remedy calculation.

Three Grounds for an Advantage Finance Claim

1. Discretionary Commission Arrangements (DCAs)

If the dealer who arranged your Advantage Finance agreement could vary your interest rate within a range, and earned more commission the higher they set it, this constitutes a DCA. DCAs were banned on 28 January 2021. Any agreement prior to that date involving an undisclosed DCA is eligible for compensation.

What Is a DCA?

2. Unfairly High Fixed Commission

Even without a DCA, if the fixed commission paid by Advantage Finance to the dealer represented at least 39% of the total cost of credit and 10% of the loan amount, it is considered unfairly high under the scheme. This applies to agreements throughout the eligible period regardless of whether a DCA was present.

3. Non-Prime Market Exploitation

The FCA’s review found that non-prime lenders were particularly prone to commission-related mis-selling because customers had limited alternatives and were often not in a position to negotiate. If you took out an Advantage Finance agreement and were not told that the dealer received a commission, or were not shown a breakdown of how that commission affected your interest rate, you have grounds to complain.

How Much Could You Receive?

The FCA has confirmed a national average payout of £829 per eligible agreement. For non-prime agreements, where interest rates were higher and commission impact more pronounced, payouts above the national average are more common. Your specific compensation is calculated using the hybrid remedy — the average of your estimated interest overpayment (based on an APR reduction of 17% for post-April 2014 agreements and 21% for pre-April 2014 agreements) and the commission paid by Advantage Finance to your dealer, plus compensatory interest at Bank of England base rate plus 1% per year.

Frequently Asked Questions

I had bad credit when I took out my Advantage Finance agreement. Can I still claim?

Yes. Your credit profile at the time of the agreement does not affect your eligibility under the FCA scheme. The scheme covers the commission arrangement between the lender and dealer, not your personal creditworthiness.

My Advantage Finance agreement had a very high interest rate. Does that help my claim?

Yes. The hybrid remedy calculation is partly based on the difference between the rate you paid and a fair market rate. Higher original rates typically produce larger compensation amounts under the APR adjustment element of the calculation.

I no longer have my paperwork. Can I still claim?

Yes. Advantage Finance is required to provide your agreement details on request. A Subject Access Request (SAR) will retrieve all data they hold on you. You can begin your claim with just your name, approximate dates, and vehicle details.

Claiming Without Paperwork

I paid off my Advantage Finance agreement early. Can I still claim?

Yes. Early settlement does not affect eligibility. The claim relates to the commission arrangement at the point the agreement was set up, not whether you completed the full term.

Claiming After Early Settlement

Think You May Have a Motor Finance Claim?

The FCA estimates average compensation of around £830 per eligible agreement, but eligibility and payment amounts vary. Some customers may receive nothing. Complaints about agreements started from 1 April 2014 should be submitted by 30 June 2026 to be considered under the earlier timetable. Different dates apply to older agreements. The scheme is currently subject to legal challenge, so dates and payment timings may change.
