Who are Santander?

From retail banking to mortgages and corporate banking, Santander offers a wide range of financial products and services including credit cards and wealth management. According to the brand’s UK site, Santander UK has lent 9.8bn in mortgages and has 14 million active and 7 million digital customers. A customer focused brand, Santander employs 23,500 people across the UK and paid £309m in corporation tax and £90m through the UK Bank Levy in 2019. What’s the current situation?

Santander UK made headlines in 2021 after announcing plans to close 111 branches by the end of August 2021, citing the ongoing digital shift as the driving force behind the significant decision.

In fact, the coronavirus pandemic played a key role in shaping the future of UK banking and services. For example, Santander’s UK branch transactions fell by 33% over the two years before the pandemic and declined by a further 50% in 2020. On the other hand, mobile and online transactions have grown by 20% each year, with almost two-thirds of overall transactions taking place digitally.

Over the last few years, banks such as Santander UK and other financial lenders have seen an influx of irresponsible lending claims in the form of unaffordable lending.   • Rework the credit card balance so that all interest and charges applied from the inception of the account onwards are removed.
  • If an outstanding balance remains after the rework, Santander must agree an affordable repayment plan with Mrs. M.
