Who are Freemans?

Freemans are a British online and catalogue clothing retailer headquartered in Bradford and started with just £400 capital by four partners. After a failed takeover by Littlewoods in 1991, Freemans was bought by Grattan owners, Otto Versand. After doubling their online sales in 2006/7 they also won awards for ‘Most Aspirational Mail Order Catalogue’ and ‘Best Mail Order Brand’ from More Magazine and Prima Magazine in 2009.

Credit offered by Freemans

Freemans offer the ‘Flexiway’ and ‘Buy Now Pay Later’ Credit Accounts. Flexiway offers 14 days free trial before you buy and then nothing to pay for 5 weeks. Pay the full amount by the due date and you won’t incur any interest, if not, it’s 29.90%. Customers who open an account get 25% off their first order. Only available online and to Flexiway customers over 3 months old is the Freemans ‘Buy Now Pay Later’ credit facility with up to 12 months interest free credit. You have to spend at least £100 on a Flexiway account to qualify.

What’s the current situation?

Freemans are owned by the OTTO group who are one of the world’s largest home shopping organisations with brands like Grattan, Kaleidoscope, Swimwear 365, Look Again, bonprix, Curvissa and WITT. The OTTO group are huge with revenue in 2021 of £13.4 billion, up 5.6% on the previous year. This indicates any claims against Freemans are likely to be settled for the foreseeable future.

What is the deadline?

Due to the financial security provided by group owners OTTO, it’s highly likely Freemans will be able to settle any catalogue claim refunds without too much trouble. It’s worth noting that the PPI deadline was 29 August 2019 but catalogue credit reclaims are completely different, so there’s still time to claim. Claims can take months to sort, so don’t delay, start now.
